“You have to tell me everything,” says Maddie. She’s quite literally bouncing on her bed, where I’m sure her laptop is perched somewhere precarious. “I can’t believe you and Theo are having sex already!”

“Well, yes and no,” I say. “We haven’t done any, uh—you know, penetration. He says I’m not, um...” I’ve never had to talk to someone about my sex life because I’ve never had one before.

“You’re not what, Celeste? Spit it out.”

“He’s really big, okay?” I cover my face, hoping it will mask my embarrassment. “So we have to work up to it. I guess.”

But Maddie just nods along. “Yes, yes, of course.” She smiles through the computer screen. “Good. Egorr and I had the same problem.” I guess that shouldn’t surprise me given his size. He might be as tall as Theo or taller, before the horns. “Neither of us really understood what we were getting into.” She cringes, and so do I.

“Yikes.”

“Theo sounds like a good match for you.” She strokes her chin thoughtfully. “Maybe we should try to get together or something? I’d like to meet him.”

I guess we do live near the same city now. “You’re saying, like, a double date?” I ask. Another one of those fun things I never got to do when I lived in New Eden.

“Yeah, exactly! A double date.”

We make some plans and run them past Theo and Egorr. They both eagerly agree.

It’s a date.
